Helping you to think clearly…
Research has shown how the quality of listening and attention a person receives can
dramatically improve the quality of their thinking and the ideas they have. I offer a respectful
space for thinking and personal exploration as well as practical help with all areas of career
management. I am particularly inspired by the work of Nancy Kline and her ‘Thinking
Environment’ (Time to Think, Listening to Ignite the Human Mind (1999), London: Ward).
Here are some of her insights that inform my work:
‘Giving good attention to people makes them more intelligent’
‘Real help, professionally or personally, consists of listening to people, of paying respectful
attention to people so that they can access their own ideas first.’
‘The assumption is that people can’t talk about something until they have thought about it first. I
believe it is more true to say that people can’t think about something until they can talk about it first’
‘People shine not in the glow of our charisma. They shine in the light of your attention for them. It is
from that that they can see their own brilliance.’
