…then a one to one personal career guidance session could be for you.
Sessions and fees
Sessions can take place face to face or on Zoom (as appropriate). I charge £75 for a 1 hour session, (which includes preparation and a written action plan). Many clients need just one session to get them moving forward, but some might need a series to explore different issues. Follow up sessions (if booked within 6 months) will be charged at a reduced rate of £65. See Client Services and Terms of Business in Policies for more detail. When conducting remote guidance, I will be following the CDI’s guidance as set out in this position paper.
How guidance works
Like other helping professions such as coaching, modern career guidance is grounded in person centred, humanistic counselling theory. This approach is non-directive and based on the notion that clients know themselves better than anyone, so are best placed to find solutions to their own problems, with empathic support. Practitioners use the skills of active listening, open questioning, summarising and challenging to help clients reflect on themselves, gain insight and generate ideas.
During a session we would…
discuss your current situation and identify key issues
agree what you hope to gain from the session
explore issues in detail, identify options, consider possible barriers and how to overcome them, identify and set realistic goals
consider different courses of action and set specific action points.
The issues we might work on include…
exploring and generating career ideas
identifying skills, qualities, strengths, values and interests
overcoming personal barriers such as confidence, limiting beliefs, lack of motivation, skills gaps
finding reliable and up to date information
decision making strategies
practical career management such as job search strategies, applications and CVs, interview preparation and techniques, networking, the hidden job market and using social media.
To help with the above we might use simple exercises and activities to get you thinking and help with decision making or generating ideas.
Services to Schools
I deliver impartial, one to one and small group guidance to young people at key transition points in a wide range of schools in the South East, helping schools to meet Gatsby Benchmarks 3 and 8, in accordance with the guidelines below. Schools include independent, grammar, academies and other mainstream settings. I also have particular experience working with students with SEND and work in a number of special needs schools.
I also deliver guidance to students who have undertaken the Morrisby psychometric assessment and design and deliver career learning and development group work sessions on a range of topics.
The majority of my work in schools is obtained through my role as an Associate Careers Adviser with CXK, along with other careers education companies, such as AMJ Careers. I also retain a number of schools as private clients. For more information on my schools services, do contact me.
